SONOFF MINI PM (MINI-1GP) is a compact Wi-Fi Matter-compatible energy meter module designed to measure the electrical consumption of loads up to 16 A on single-phase 100–240 V AC networks. The device is not a switching relay: its primary purpose is to measure voltage, current, instantaneous power, and energy consumption. Thanks to its compact 32 × 29 × 15.9 mm dimensions, it is designed for concealed installation, for example inside an electrical wall box.

The MINI-1GP supports bidirectional energy metering, allowing it to measure both energy consumption and energy fed back into the grid, for example when monitoring the output of balcony solar systems. The eWeLink system provides real-time and historical energy data, charts, and electricity cost calculation, while both energy and cost data can be exported. If the internet connection is interrupted, energy data continues to be stored locally and is synchronized once the connection is restored.

The device supports Matter over Wi-Fi communication, the local OpenEdge web interface, MQTT integration, and a JSON-RPC 2.0 API. It can be integrated into Home Assistant via Matter or MQTT, meaning the manufacturer's eWeLink cloud is not required for local integration. The MINI-1GP is primarily intended for energy metering and energy monitoring applications; a neutral conductor is required for operation.

About SONOFF

SONOFF manufactures smart home devices, relay modules, energy meters, wall switches, Zigbee sensors, control panels, gateways, and various electrical installation accessories. Its product range includes devices using Wi-Fi, Zigbee, Matter, and LAN communication.

SONOFF devices are primarily built around the eWeLink platform, but many products can also be integrated with Home Assistant, Zigbee2MQTT, ZHA, SmartThings, Alexa, Google Home, and other smart home systems. In addition to residential smart home solutions, the manufacturer's range also includes DIN rail-mounted devices, energy monitoring solutions, and products suitable for professional installation.

Key Product Features

  • Matter compatibility: The MINI-1GP supports the Matter protocol, allowing standardized integration into compatible smart home systems. Support for the Energy Meter device type currently varies by platform.
  • SONOFF OpenEdge: The device can be managed directly through a web browser on the local network without installing an app or requiring a cloud connection.
  • Bidirectional energy metering: In addition to energy consumption, power flow in the opposite direction can also be measured, making the device suitable for monitoring energy generated by systems such as balcony solar installations.
  • Energy data and export: Energy consumption can be monitored on charts, and historical energy data can be exported for further analysis.
  • Electricity cost tracking: A custom currency and electricity tariff can be configured, allowing the system to calculate and display electricity costs on charts.
  • Home Assistant integration: Can be integrated into Home Assistant using either Matter or MQTT.
  • Open API: A JSON-RPC 2.0 API is available over HTTP, WebSocket, and MQTT for accessing device data and integrating it into other systems.

Smart Home Protocols and Platform Compatibility

  • Wi-Fi: Connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks using IEEE 802.11 b/g/n. A separate smart home gateway is not required for eWeLink or local network operation.
  • Matter over Wi-Fi: The MINI-1GP can be integrated as a native Matter device over a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network into compatible Matter systems.
  • eWeLink: Detailed energy consumption data, charts, cost calculations, data export, and other device settings are available in the eWeLink app.
  • Home Assistant Matter: Voltage, current, power, and energy data can be exposed to Home Assistant through Matter.
  • Home Assistant MQTT: The device can also be integrated into Home Assistant using MQTT. In a LAN-only environment, MQTT integration can receive measurement data in real time.
  • MQTT: An external MQTT connection can be configured through the local OpenEdge interface, allowing measurement data to be sent to a local or third-party system.
  • HTTP API: The JSON-RPC 2.0-based API is also available over HTTP.
  • WebSocket: JSON-RPC 2.0 communication and outbound WebSocket connections are supported for integration with external systems.
  • Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home, and SmartThings: Although the Matter standard is designed for multi-platform compatibility, according to SONOFF's current documentation these platforms do not currently support adding the MINI-1GP because of platform-side limitations related to the Energy Meter device type. This may change with future platform updates.

Smart Features

  • Real-time measurements: Current voltage, current, and power can be displayed.
  • Energy consumption measurement: Total electrical energy consumption and changes in consumption over time can be monitored.
  • Bidirectional metering: The device can measure energy flow in both directions. Exported energy can be displayed as a negative value.
  • Energy history: Energy consumption can be viewed on historical charts. SONOFF specifies up to one year of energy data storage in the eWeLink cloud.
  • Offline data collection: If the internet or cloud connection is unavailable, energy data continues to be stored locally and is synchronized once the connection is restored. No data can be recorded while the device itself is completely without power.
  • Data export: Historical energy data can be exported for further processing; the manufacturer specifies Excel export support.
  • Electricity cost calculation: A custom currency and electricity price can be configured, allowing eWeLink to calculate and display energy costs on charts.
  • Cost data export: Electricity cost data stored in eWeLink can also be exported.
  • Consumption curve: Changes in power consumption can be recorded and displayed over a selected period.
  • Maintenance reminder: A maintenance interval can be configured so that the system tracks operating time above a specified power level and sends a notification when the configured duration is reached.
  • Local web interface: The OpenEdge interface provides real-time consumption data, energy history, charts, and energy data export.
  • LAN operation: The device remains accessible on the local network without a cloud connection. The web interface and Home Assistant MQTT integration can also be used in a LAN-only environment.
  • Device sharing: The device can be shared with other eWeLink accounts.
  • LED modes: The status LED can be configured for Auto, Off, or Night Mode. In Night Mode, a period can be specified during which the indicator light remains off.
  • AP mode: The device's own Wi-Fi access point can be enabled, with configurable SSID and password.
  • OTA firmware updates: The device firmware can be updated over the air.

Electrical Functions

  • Supply voltage: 100–240 V AC, 50/60 Hz.
  • Rated current: Up to 16 A.
  • Electrical system: Designed for single-phase AC networks.
  • Neutral conductor: A neutral conductor is required for operation of the MINI-1GP.
  • Energy metering: Measures voltage, current, instantaneous power, and energy consumption.
  • Bidirectional energy metering: Can measure both energy consumption and exported energy.
  • Not a switching relay: The MINI-1GP is designed as an energy meter rather than a conventional remotely controlled switching relay. Normal user ON/OFF control of the load is not its intended function.
  • Wiring: The device has N neutral, L live input, and L Out switched-through live terminals. The measured load receives its live conductor through the device.
  • Wire cross-section: Supports 0.75–2.5 mm² (18–14 AWG) solid or stranded copper conductors.
  • Upstream protection: The manufacturer specifies the use of a 16 A rated MCB or an RCBO with overcurrent protection upstream of the MINI-1GP.
